NEVER has there been a more hotly-anticipated debut solo single, since a certain Victoria Beckham tried her hand away from the Spice Girls. And the similarities between Posh and Mrs Cole are endless: both from the biggest girl group at the time; both not known as “lead singers”; both married to footballers; both have dark hair (ok clutching at straws there).
But Cheryl can breathe a sigh of relief as she can actually sing, unlike Mrs Beckham (sorry, Vicky). True, Cheryl is never going to be Celine Dion, but she has a personality and a definite sound on this record: it is a natural follow-up to her duet with Will.I.Am from last year.
If rumours are to be believed, her first single was supposed to be Break Your Heart, which Taio Cruz took to No.1 recently. That would have been a much better debut from the Girls Aloud star. However, credit where credit is due, it’s a promising start for the Geordie singer. She would at least get through to boot camp!
